Talk

Two ways in.

Both come to me, and I answer them myself. If I’m not the right person I’ll say so, and I usually know who is.

Door one

Pick a time.

Twenty minutes, video or phone. Nothing to prepare.

Door two

Or write it down.

Some people would rather type it than say it out loud to a stranger.

Door one

Pick a time.

Video or phone, whichever you’d rather. A calendar invite and one reminder, nothing else, and nothing to prepare.

Calendar

The calendar didn’t load.

Sometimes a browser blocks it. Open it in a new tab and it works fine.

Door two

Or write it down first.

Some people would rather type it than say it out loud to a stranger. That’s often easier, and it comes straight to me.

Still hovering?

I know what you’re thinking.

You’ve got this far, and now there’s a quiet voice talking you out of it. It says one of these. I’ve heard all of them, usually from people who booked anyway and were glad they did.

You can work this out on your own. It isn’t that bad. Not yet. After this quarter.
It’s twenty minutes. You’ve already spent more than that this week going round the same loop.
No. There is nothing to pitch in twenty minutes, and I don’t send a proposal unless you ask for one. If I’m not the right person I’ll say so on the call, and I usually know who is.
No. And if I work with your team, what they tell me stays with them too. You get what I’m finding, not who said it.
Should I hire a coach or a consultant instead?
Possibly. I have written the honest version of that, including the three things a firm does better than me. Coach, consultant or mentor.
I don’t know yet, and neither do you. What I do know is that staying where you are hurts.
Most people don’t when they sit down. That’s the part I’m good at.
Probably. Or maybe you’re playing yours down. Either way you don’t deserve to be carrying this. Imagine tomorrow if you’d said it out loud and started moving.
